Adjunto un PDF con la sección de melee, mi inglés no es gran cosa así que espero que alguien más avispao que yo vea qué es lo que estoy omitiendo. Meto en la siguiente cita un ejemplo de combate (el que aparece en el PDF). En negrita, mi duda: ¿cómo se logra ese factor, y porqué es diferente en la unidad de caballeros y de lanceros?
Nota: el "melee #" es el atributo de ataque que tiene cada tropa.
A unit of Levantine Knights (4 elem. In line) has charged a unit of Balkan Spears (6 elem. in 2 ranks); they line up their stands so that the knights overlap their foes by 1 element on their left. The knight's melee # vs. foot is 9, modified to 13.5 for cav. charging (+1/2). the Bk/Spear's melee# vs. horse is 4, modified to 9 (x2 formed spears, +1 extra rank). The situation status of both armies is currently firm (sit. mod. 0). This gives a ratio of 3-2 to the knights and 1-2 to the spears; the knights roll three dice on the hit table at 3-2 and get 2 hits (1,4,5 are rolled) the spears roll three at 1-2 and get 1 hit (6,2,2 are rolled). the difference between the two is 1, which is checked on the Melee victory table; as the cav. has the more hits, the result is found under cav/inf; on a 1 the result is "break into". melee will continue next turn with both units disordered.
Next turn: nothing has interfered with the units (e.g. additional units joining in) the melee continues. the knights now have a melee # of 4.5 (-1/2 for disorder) to the kont.'s # of 2 (-1/2 disord.) giving a ratio of 3-1 for the knights and 1-2 for the spears; even though the Knights have an element on the left lapping around, it is on the spears’ shielded side, so the spears can still fight, but the knights get 4 rolls. The rolls are 7 hits (2,5,1,6) for the knights and 0 (2,4,2) for the spears, giving the knights a V2 result; half the spears are destroyed, the rest routs (the elements are turn around) and the knights will pursue next turn (almost certainly catching the hapless spearmen). Any obligatory moves on either part would be preformed next turn.
