I recently finished a gem of a book on the Civil War entitled "Decisions at Gettysburg; The Nineteen Critical Decisions that Defined the Campaign" by Matt Spruill, a professor at the U.S. Army War College. In this soft back, 198 page book there is no daring-do, no thunderous descriptions of battle or sadness over the dead. It is not that kind of book. This is the distillation of the thought that the author has given to this pivotal campaign in the American Civil War and how 19 separate decisions, from the army commanders on down to Brigade leaders, formed the campaign and its tactical and operational elements. That only covers 94 pages of the book. The rest is a staff ride based on the actual reports of the various personages that fought the battle and an Order of Battle for both armies.  Of the 45 books I have on the campaign and the 600 titles I have on this war, this is – in its compact way - one of the most valuable in understanding the campaign, how and why it unfolded the way it did and what failures of command on one side and initiative of command on the other doomed the confederate effort. He brings out Stuart, the Cavalry commander of the confederate army for particular and far reaching failures. He also discusses initiative n a way that will help clarify it from a wargame perspective.  Many of his discussion points on the use of cavalry in the war also has a wargame perspective, particularly in rules writing for the period with operational board games.


Along with this book, I recommend two others for the most complete picture of the story of the Gettysburg Campaign and the impact of leadership combat losses in the development of the battle. They are "Command and Communications Frictions in The Gettysburg Campaign" written by Philip M. Cole 2006, who also wrote "Civil War Artillery at Gettysburg" in 2002. And "The Gettysburg Companion, The Complete Guide to America's Most Famous Battle," by Mark Adkin.  The best book of maps on the campaign that I have seen is Bradley M. Gottfried's "The Maps of Gettysburg, An Atlas of the Gettysburg Campaign," published in 2007.

No consigo entender por qué Foundry está liquidando sus mejores miniaturas para sacar inmediatamente otras peores

Iba a comentarlo. Al parecer, y según foreros de LAF, están deshaciendose del stock de las figuras esculpidas por los Perry y Copplestone (y puede que otros) para no tener que pagarles derechos.
Seguramente solo reemplacen aquellas gamas que más se vendan. Tanto los Aztecas como toda la gama de África, no van a ser reemplazadas. Ojalá Copplestone consiga hacerse con los derechos para poder venderlas y ampliarlas

¿Será por eso? EM4 y Mirliton siguen vendiendo figuras de Copplestone sin problemas. Mira que le tenía ganas al Condottiere, pero no he vuelto a mirarlo porque las fotos de las miniaturas me dan mal rollo.

Pues no lo se. Pero incluso han intentado comprar los moldes y Foundry no ha querido. En su mercadillo hay bastante movimiento en busca de minis de África
