Wizkids, la casa detrás de los diferentes Heroclixes y similares, cierra. La casa madre, Topps, declara que lo hace porque debe alinear sus esfuerzos con las lineas que producen directamente (cromos) y que deben resultarles más rentables, aunque hablan que intentarán que las lineas de éxito como Heroclix no se vean afectadas.

Catalyst Game Labs ha reaccionado al anuncio diciendo que esto no afectará a sus lineas de Shadowrun y Classic Battletech. Recordemos que el juego coleccionable de Battletech estaba en poder de Wizkids.

Catalyst Game Labs has already been informed this should in no way affect Catalyst' publication of the Classic BattleTech and Shadowrun game lines.
"We're still completely dedicated to the Classic BattleTech and Shadowrun game lines," said Loren Coleman, co-owner of Catalyst Game Labs. "We've got a great line of products coming out heading into 2009 and so see no reason why the 25th [BattleTech] and 20th [Shadowrun] anniversary years for these brands won' be fantastic for our great fan base."

Announcement

The Topps Company announced today that WizKids will immediately cease operations and discontinue its product lines.

Scott Silverstein, CEO of Topps, said "This was an extremely difficult decision. While the company will still actively pursue gaming initiatives, we feel it is necessary to align our efforts more closely with Topps current sports and entertainment offerings which are being developed within our New York office."

Upon notifying our partners, Topps will immediately pursue strategic alternatives so that viable brands and properties, including HeroClix, can continue without noticeable disruption. To that end, WizKids will continue supporting Buy it By the Brick redemptions for Arkham Asylum, and the December Organized Play events for HeroClix.

están buscando opciones para que las marcas VIABLES (como Heroclix) continuen sin que se note... Vamos, que hay lineas viables, lo que no debe ser rentable es Wizkids como empresa y por eso la chapan.

La crisis llega al mundo de las figuritas... ¿Quién será el siguiente?

(Me resisto a creer que los Clix sean deficitarios en USA, con la masa instalada que tienen)

Me parece que no es más que un montón de "bussines lingo" políticamente correcto. Buscar alternativas estratégicas...  pero solo hasta diciembre. Anunciar esto justo en la campaña de Navidad ¿Como va a afectar esto a su canal de ventas? ¿Quien va a "stockar" sus productos en estas condiciones?

Mucho me temo que veremos desaparecer a Wizkids como marca (o la veremos muy devaluada, como paso con Avalon Hill y Hasbro) y los trozos vendidos al mejor postor o criando polvo en un almacén como paso con Target.
Realmente, si Topps no loo quiere, no veo una compañía alternativa que quiera, o pueda, meterse ahí. Y Topps no hará este anuncio si pensaran continuar ellos las lineas, es un suicidio. En este caso una eutanasia empresarial.


El problema de nuestro mundillo es que hay mucho gigante con pies de barro que se percibe como gran empresa.

¿Habéis pensado que pasaría el año que viene con GW si hay una "contracción" de ventas del 25%?  Y por lo que sé en UK el tema va peor ahora mismo y es su mercado más rentable.

Por un lado, ex-empleados de wizkids han montado una ¿compañía? llamada Piñata Games (aunque ellos escriben "Pinata") que ha lanzado la plataforma "Salvemos Heroclix"

Por otro, Catalyst Games (poseedores de la licencia de Classic Battletech) le han hecho una oferta a Topps para hacerse con varias licencias de Wizkids, incluyendo la linea Battletech y Pirates. He aquí el resumen:
